Atrial Fibrillation is Atrial Failure
the chronic process of AFib leads to both the continuation of the arrhythmia and the remodeling of the LA, with consequent fibrosis and worsening AFib
What is Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)?
Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is the most commonly diagnosed arrhythmia. AFib affects more than thirty-seven million people worldwide and is characterized by a quivering or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. It is generally acknowledged that AFib incidence and prevalence will continue to increase due to growing numbers of older people in the worldwide population.
